Why the Why?

Everyone asks “Do you know your why?” Innately we know each, and every one of us knows why we get up in the morning, go to work, eat, sleep, care for kids, care for the dog (cats too), and clean. We do that all over again. Everyday.

Do we know why we do the same thing day in and day out? It seems that our why pushes us to fulfill our daily routine. The why has been our complacency and the reason we are programmed to act in a nondisruptive chain of unending habits. Many people have succumbed to the reliable paycheck and have not challenged their status quo. Does your why push you enough to do more?

My father pushed himself to create more because his why were his belief that he needed to make a better life for my mom, my sister, my brother, my nieces and nephews, my kids and me. He built several homes and turned them into rentals. He did extra work and wired people’s home for extra pay. My father would help my mother with the vegetable gardens and sell at the farmer’s markets. He knew his why and he worked hard to answer that question every day.

Simon Sinek challenges businesses, business owners, and people to put the why first. In the Ted Talk Sinek uses Apple as an example of using their why as a success. So let’s start with why for your business.

I ask someone a simple question, “Why are you in the business?” Their answer is “I love the product.” I know that it’s a great product and the person agrees.  I follow up with another question, “Why do you sell the product?” The person answers, “I believe that it will help people.” My response to the person how does your why match to the company’s why. The person’s answer,”I have a family, and I want them to have everything I did not have.”  Then I ask,”So why this business?” “Why does this product relate to your why?” There is a long pause.

I have many businesses, and I can relate my why to all of them:

Consulting: In this world, my strong belief is that nonprofits and businesses, can achieve more.  Creating better organizations will benefit my community of families and friends.  Businesses and nonprofits are discovering that they can overcome any obstacles with a set of fresh eyes. I will walk alongside you and see where the gaps are, and together we can achieve more.

Speaking, Training, Coaching: With the challenges of today’s world of competing for time and money, staff and leaders will find the to change their mindset. Improving people’s way of thinking creates a better atmosphere in the workplace. Leaders witness a higher sense of responsibility from their staff and staff see that leaders have confidence in their ability to lead.

The next ones are easy:

Amare: In today’s world of stress and health issues, people will experience a holistic mental wellness platform that addresses their body and mind. My family and other people have sensed a change in their overall health. With Amare, I can show you how you can obtain long-term well being.

Chloe & Isabel: There are many jewelry companies.  Chloe & Isabel create exceptional quality pieces that come with a lifetime guarantee and a company that celebrates the connection between women. They’re responsible for upholding production and sourcing practices across areas such as human rights, health/safety, and fair wages. Have unique quality pieces, through fun and fashion-forward platform.starfish and seashells

KOKOON: Like jewelry, there are many clothing companies.  KOKOON has amazing designs and is ethically made in the United States with a mission to provide comfortably feminine style inspired by reality.  KOKOON reminds me of my mother and Laine’s entrepreneurship is inspiring. Where My Peeps at? (Support for the Biz)

I ask my family and friends to like and share my events and my business.   I ask my clients to write a testimony on their mastermind groups or my talks.  In business, it’s a lot of asking. Keep plugging away, keep my business at the top of people’s mind, and keep going.

pexels-photo-273222.jpegI’ve been in business since November.  I was at my highest high when I ran 6 mastermind groups, had 5 coaching clients, 2 trainings, and spoke at 2 events in one week. This was amazing!!! I’m an ENFP! I couldn’t come down from the clouds. I made a little money with my jewelry business and got interest in the online clothing business. I also signed on to a natural mental health wellness company to help my son and have a better memory for myself.

Now I am at my lowest low.  I have no new mastermind groups, no new coaching clients, and have not spoken at events for weeks.

I know it’s all about the hustle and I was banking too much on a few clients when I should have been reaching out to more people. I need to rewind and go back to the basics and reset my 90-day plan.  Market, network, and ask.

I’m asking you to like and share my page, and if you like any service or product I have provided, please write a testimony.

My intention this year is to make sure I thank everyone that are supporters of my new adventure. We know that at the beginning of the year everyone has their best intentions to meet a goal. Goals may be to organize your home, or to lose weight, or to stick to a budget.  With all of these good and purposeful intentions, I wondered how many of us write those goals down and are quickly forgotten in several weeks. We also tend to write the same goals every year.

I have my clients write their dreams.  This is the first step into intention. Working with many people at the beginning of this year and having them write their intentions, helped me think and write my own.  Here are my goals:

  1. Remember to thank people for their support
  2. Add value to people to carry out their intentions
  3. Take time to take care of myself, my family, and my community

Take that first step. Write your intentions here. Start on your goals today.  I’m here to help you accomplish what you have been writing every year.

Energy Givers and Energy Takers

Which one are you? You know Energy Givers will do everything for you and drop what they are doing to make sure you are okay.  I know a lot of you experience Energy Takers.  Those are the people that come in with drama and take up your time and your life and give nothing back to you.

I think of myself as an Energy Giver.  I pour myself into a person and coach them to do a little more.  I have learned how to listen with my entire body and my entire soul until the person has exhausted themselves.  Intent listening drains my energy, and I need to recover from it for hours.  Intent listening will be on a later blog.

Looking back on my life, I have been an Energy Taker.  I have taken advantage of people by abusing my relationship with them. I’ve stolen their energy and their gifts.  For those people, I am genuinely remorseful.

There is this dance we experience with Energy. I think we enter into a relationship and we are oblivious to what we are giving and taking. Coaching, mentoring, accountability partners, training, and speaking at the front end can seem like giving a lot of your energy. After a 3 hour training, I reflect on the session and treasure the people that had that change in their heart or discovered a new way of approaching a problem.  I honestly feel my soul soar when I see that realization on a person’s face. The atmosphere resonates with this brilliance, and that person is luminescent.

So, Energy Takers create ways to give. Energy Givers find that energy that you can take and use to give you more.

Speakers gotta speak

I’ve been a speaker since I was in sixth grade.  My mother enrolled me in Japanese  school at the Hanapepe Hongwangi Mission.  Now, I was a trouble maker and gave my poor sensei a very hard time.  The administrators and the teachers were all very patient with me.  An amazing thing happened while I was there learning how to read, write, and speak in Japanese; I became confident in becoming a public speaker.

Our sensei entered students into a Japanese speech competition held at the Mission. I memorized a speech about a camel. I practiced and practiced the speech over and over.  I practiced in front of a mirror, I practiced while I was walking to and from school, and I practiced while I did my chores. As a class we practiced at the podium on the stage. This is the first time I wanted to really be good at something.

I barely remember the event.  The night of the competition, the air was a little cool, the clouds were swirling in the sky and I felt that there was something magical to the evening.  I had no idea that there would be a lot of people at the event.  My mother had me dressed in a new muumuu she sewed just for the event.  I saw all the faces in the crowd and was not nervous. I felt this overwhelming joy.  I loved the thrill of going up those wooden steps and holding the mike.  With my crutches planted to keep me still, I began this magical journey of a camel in the desert and connected with the audience and the judges. After my speech, I floated off the stage and felt accomplished.  I think I won my category but that did not matter.

I have a minor in Speech and found the feedback and criticism during the classes to be beneficial to my growth as a speaker.  I have been confidently speaking for organizations regarding their goals and their missions for 25 years.

I joined The John Maxwell Team because I was attracted to leadership growth and improvement.  I found the laws to be simple but I can see that many businesses have difficulty implementing the philosophies.  There are many areas to speak and share the philosophies of leadership and communication.  The lunch and learns (seminars), the mastermind groups (workshops), and the coaching (one on one) are great tools for any organization to have for training.  If you are interested, in any of the opportunities, please contact me at bambooshoothi@gmail.com. I offer free lunch and learns. Speakers gotta speak.

Now, I have this opportunity in front of me.  I showed up for this dream of creating a message that will help other people.  It’s easy for me to be an inspirational or motivational speaker but I want to go deeper than that.  Enhancing a program or a leadership team to supersede their goals, gets me excited.  Improving communication, facing conflict, and bettering systems are those areas that is a passion for me and I hope that is a passion for coordinators, managers, directors, or presidents.

What do you think my message should be?
